Who are we?

The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Pennsylvania (NAMI-PA) is part of the nation's largest grassroots organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness. NAMI has a national organization as well as state organizations and local affiliates in more than 1,100 communities across the United States. Through the dedicated efforts of grassroots leaders, NAMI focuses on three cornerstones of activity that offer hope, reform, and health: Support, Advocacy, and Education

Support -- through meetings for those afflicted with mental illness and their family members & friends, where they can share ideas, thoughts, experiences, and coping strategies with similarly affected people.

Advocate -- through support of better legislation & services for those suffering from mental illness, to ensure they receive better care and have a voice speaking for their best interest on all issues that may affect their well-being.

Educate -- through videos, pamphlets, public speakers, books, and brochures, our consistent goal is to educate the general public on what it truly means to be directly affected by mental illness, and to eliminate the stigma that surrounds these diagnoses.

Note: NAMI PA affiliates do not provide direct services to persons with mental illness/brain disorder.*

Here at NAMI-PA Wilkes-Barre, our goal is to provide the information & support necessary for those currently living with, or who have a loved one affected by, mental illness or brain disorders. Though we can not diagnose or treat these disorders, once you or a loved one has been diagnosed by a health care professional, we offer hope, compassion, and a safe place to discuss thoughts, feelings, concerns, and experiences with like-minded and similarly affected peers. Please browse our site, and feel free to contact us with your questions, comments, or concerns!
