Join Us!
Working together, we can improve the quality of life for persons with mental illness/brain disorders and their families living
in our counties. Membership is open to anyone interested in helping families and consumers with mental illness/brain disorders.
SERIOUS MENTAL ILLNESSES INCLUDE:
Schizophrenia, depression, manic depression (bi-polar) obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and panic disorder.
Scientific evidence supports the belief that these disorders are the result of biochemical imbalances that can be treated
effectively with medication and other therapies.
ASK YOURSELF THE FOLLOWING. . .
Do you feel alone trying to cope with the problems of a family member of friend with mental illness/brain disorder?
Would you like to talk with someone who understands and who can give you emotional support?
Would you like to meet informally with others who have a friend or relative with a mental illness/brain disorder?
Would you like access to information about illnesses, medications and current treatments?
Do you need information concerning the services available for persons with mental illness/brain disorder?
DID YOU KNOW?
While a single symptom or isolated event is not necessarily a sign of mental illness, professional help should be sought
if symptoms persist, worsen, recur.
One in four families will have a member who suffers from a severe mental illness/brain disorder. One out of 10 Americans
will develop serious mental illness in their lifetime.
Mental illness/brain disorders are medical illnesses that require medical tratment and they are no one's fault.
Warning signs include:
Extreme high or low moods
Marked personality change
Excessive anxieties or fears
Withdrawal from friends/family
Loss of interest in formerly enjoyed activities
Lack of energy, fatigue
Changes in eating/sleeping habits
Thinking or talking about suicide
Anger or hostility out of proportion to the situation
Growing inability to cope with problems, activities, job, school, or personal needs
